A Landscape Of Objects

On a cold and crisp day earlier this year, Katie Spragg and a group of artists donned welly boots, hats and gloves and enjoyed a wander around the gardens. Inspired by their visit, they returned to their studios and made a collection of objects and installations that would, together, form ‘A landscape of Objects’  – a series of sculptures for the house and garden.

Anne Marie O-Sullivan, together with Tom McWalter crafted a collection of willow fish traps that were suspended over the pond by the Great Lake. Vezzini & Chen’s porcelain and glass pieces float gently on the surface of the Long Pond, refracting the light and illustrating the textures found in the surrounding flora and Eleanor Lakelin carved, chiselled and sand blasted English oak and cedar, creating three hollowed vessels and tactile shapes that have been shortlisted in the Wood Awards ‘Furniture & Product: Bespoke’ category.

Adding to the collection, from Sunday 24th September, will be intricately detailed ceramics by Katie Spragg and Kaori Tatebayashi, on display in the house. You can watch some of Katie’s artwork in action below:

7th October – Hands-On Family Workshops

Inspired by the beauty of the gardens, award-winning artist Katie Spragg will be hosting a creative hands-on workshop with clay.

Families are welcome to drop in anytime between 10am – 12pm.

The workshop is free but normal admission prices apply

‘A landscape of Objects’ is part of a major artistic programme by Somerset Art Works  to encourage research by artists into the spirit of the place, local identity and rural context in the making and presenting of contemporary arts and craft, investigating innovative and imaginative uses of these important cultivated  landscapes.
