It feels like a tipping point in the season. A surge of energy gathering momentum. Pink-cheeked magnolias keeping company with stellata, more spools of ribbon blowing in the breeze, but Joshua Sparkes has already got his feet firmly planted in the next season. Not so much looking around at what’s in bloom, but more towards the horizon and what’s to come. A patchwork quilt of bulbs, with the eye zig zagging its way through the border with a complex tapestry of colour and texture. A nod to Josh’s travels abroad, with space for self-sown seedlings – not to be edited by the trowel, Josh explains, but a process of self selection.

Josh takes us on a visual wander through the bulb meadow and the building blocks on which he bases a design.
