The Forde Abbey Concert Society is a non-profit making organisation run with the aim of bringing the best possible concerts to Dorset for the enjoyment of its members. Each season it attracts artists of an international level for a varied programme of music.

Aleksandar was born in Belgrade and was a prize-winner in the Geneva, Balzano, Leeds and Milan international piano competitions. He has performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Budapest Festival and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. He is a regular visitor to Wigmore Hall as soloist and chamber musician; a brilliant pianist well known for his sensitive musicianship and beauty of sound. His programme will include Bach, Chopin Ballades, Beethoven’s Sonata Les adieux and three Rachmaninov Preludes.

Gould Piano Trio with Louise Innes
Thursday 6 June

The Gould Trio, which has recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, can be heard regularly on Radio 3 and at Wigmore Hall. Thy will be joined in the first half of the concert by soprano Louise Innes for two exquisite but rarely heard songs; Massenet’s Elegy and Saint-Saens’ Violons du soir. Also in the programme are trios by Haydn and the romantic American composter Amy Beach, finishing with the magnificent Dvorak F minor Trio.

Castalian Quartet
Thursday 27 June

The Castalian Quartet is among the rising stars on the international scene. Their schedule this year includes concerts in New York, Vienna, Brussels, Lucerne, London and Aldeburgh. Formed in Hamburg in 2011, of Finnish, French, Irish and British nationalities, the quartet was the overall winner of the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition. Their programme will be  Beethoven Op. 18, No 6, Janacek’s Kreutzer and Brahms’ Quartet in A minor.

The Gaudier Ensemble
Thursday 19 September

Described by The Sunday Times as ‘one of the world’s elite ensembles’ the Gaudier Ensemble was formed in 1988 by leading members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. They will be well known to local audiences through their celebrated annual festival at Cerne Abbas. Many of the musicians have made recordings at Forde Abbey over the years. Their programme will include Weber’s Quintet for clarinet and strings and Dvorak’s string quintet with double bass op.77.

Concerts start at 7.30pm.
Hall doors open at 6.30pm. The Bar will be open from 6.30pm and drinks will also be served during the interval.

Members are welcome to picnic in the gardens before the concert.  The Tea Room door will also be open from 6pm for those who prefer to picnic inside or in the case of inclement weather.
