The Schubert Ensemble

The Schubert Ensemble

June 21 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

£20

The Forde Abbey Concert Society is a non-profit making organisation run with the aim of bringing the best possible concerts to Dorset for the enjoyment of its members. Each season it attracts artists of an international level for a varied programme of music.

Trio Apaches
Thursday 26 April

Following their brilliant concert here two years ago, Matthew Trusler, Thomas Carroll and Ashley Wass return to play the Mendelssohn C Minor Piano Trio and another of their entertaining arrangements for piano trio, the Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens. Also in the programme is Shostakovich’s Piano Trio, No. 2, a powerfully evocative piece written as the horrors of the Holocaust were being uncovered, and first performed in Leningrad shortly after the end of the siege in 1944.

Marina Piccinini, Kim Kashkahian and Sivan Magen
Thursday 24 May

This international cast of soloists from Austria, America and Israel are in Britain for their Wigmore Hall concert later this month. We are delighted that they will first spend some time with us in the countryside and perform some of the exquisite repertoire for flute, viola and harp. Their programme will include a Suite from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, an arrangement of Debussy’s Children’s Corner and works by Rameau, Ravel, and the Japanese composer Takemitsu.

The Schubert Ensemble – The Farewell Tour
Thursday 21 June

After 35 years on the international chamber music circuit, the Schubert Ensemble will embark on its final week of concerts in June 2018. Rather than fade away, they have chosen to depart at the top of their game, and a packed schedule since January has included tours of England, Scotland, Luxembourg and the USA. Their programme will include the usual combination of discoveries, neglected gems and the great classics; Vaughan William’s Quintet with bass, Dvorak’s E flat Piano Quartet and works by Scarlatti and Korngold.

SOLD OUT

Doric Quartet
Thursday 20 September

Those of you who have heard their previous concerts for us will know that the Dorics are as fine a quartet as you will hear anywhere in the world. They will play a programme of appropriately high stature, featuring Schubert’s G Major String Quartet, D.887 which, alongside the C Major Quintet, is his greatest chamber work. Also in the programme is Haydn’s Op. 33, No. 1 and Bartok’s astonishing Fifth Quartet, one of the most technically demanding works in the repertoire.

Concerts start at 7.30pm.
Hall doors open at 6.30pm. The Bar will be open from 6.30pm and drinks will also be served during the interval.

Members are welcome to picnic in the gardens before the concert.  The Tea Room door will also be open from 6pm for those who prefer to picnic inside or in the case of inclement weather.
