April 19 - April 30
They’re the welcome burst of colour in the Spring before the garden really gets going. And with such variety, that ordering the bulbs in October gets more involved with every year. This year’s display is a choice of tall and elegant uprights, blousy and peony like blooms, feathery fringed edging, and glowing goblets. The list is endless, the colours too.
It’s an annual delight that started in the Autumn of 2013, when 13,000 bulbs were planted in the herbaceous beds to give an early start to colour in the Park Garden, on the Mount and in the Kitchen Garden.
Keen to evolve the tradition of tulips the garden team create a new design each year. This year’s selection include ‘Francoise,’ inter planted with Don Quichotte and Gavotta, Queen of Night in amongst Salmon Impression, Merlot and Lambada , and Play Girl, Pleasure and Royal Virgin overlooking the house from the Mount.
Later in April, and the Tulip Walk will come to life. Two interconnecting swirls that allow visitors to be able to wander through a planting scheme of tulips either side. Later on in the year, the tulips will give way to wild flowers, providing a flower-filled six months.
