Pumpkin Rolling Returns to the Abbey - This October Half Term
Following the success of last year’s event, the popular Pumpkin Rolling returns this October half term, offering families the opportunity to enjoy a seasonal tradition in the picturesque grounds of the Abbey.
Throughout the week, visitors are invited to explore the gardens, especially the kitchen garden, where a patch of pumpkins has been carefully cultivated and harvested in preparation for the event. Select and purchase a pumpkin of your choice before making your way to the Top Lawn in front of the Abbey.
The activity itself is simple, but it is much loved and full of giggles. Participants roll their pumpkins down the gentle slope towards the Bottom Lawn, with the goal of seeing whose pumpkin travels the furthest. Children are invited to take part first, with adults joining in afterwards for a light-hearted competition of their own.
Once the rolling is complete, you are welcome to take your pumpkins home for Halloween carving or seasonal displays.
This charming outdoor event offers a unique way to celebrate harvest from the kitchen garden, half-term and autumn, combining fresh air, friendly competition, and a touch of harvest-time tradition. All ages are welcome, and the event is designed to be both enjoyable and accessible for children and adults alike.
Normal admission prices apply, plus an extra charge for each pumpkin.
Pumpkins available to purchase at the Gift Shop.
Booking is not required but do not miss out on the discount for pre-booked tickets.
Free entry to the event for Forde Abbey and Historic Houses Members.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Abbey this October for another memorable week of pumpkin rolling.
